The great North American crackdown

North Americans are witnessing a “true color” historical event. For all the pandering to the media about exercising the right to dissent and to peaceably protest; for all the encouragement from politicians to protest for social justice; for all the looking the other way and saying that protests are peaceful amid the obvious evidence of burning buildings and looting of businesses; for all the winking at herds of nefarious characters making off with other people’s property; for all the alligator tears over police brutality resulting in the defunding of police, and the subsequent 30% increase in violent crime; Liberals are not true to their word. They champion dissent only when they support the issue that causes dissent.

Across Canada and the United States, draconian COVID mandates have shredded freedom, civil liberty and personal choice. The governments have rejected the medical science of quarantining the sick and have opted for the political science of locking down the healthy. They have forced the wearing of masks when the science says that masks are not effective against the spread of COVID. They have tried to force the masses to take a genetic-altering serum that neither prevents infection nor transmission of the disease. When reputable scientists and medical doctors publish studies challenging the effectiveness, safety and treatment of government-mandated protocols, they censor and dismiss them as misinformation, even to the point of inferring those who believe these studies could be domestic terrorists.

Those who refuse the government line are treated like criminals, set apart, ostracized, labeled and demonized. Those who would go so far as to peaceably assemble against the government line are considered enemies of the state. False narratives are spoon fed to a media that has become the furry little lapdog of the leftist agenda. Protestors who help the elderly shovel their snow, feed the homeless, pick up garbage and set up bouncy castles for children are labeled violent extremists. Government power is applied to shut down funding of the dissenters. Emergency measures are invoked to further take away the rights associated with freedom. This is contrary to the social contract upon which North American government (Canada and the US) is established as articulated by English philosopher John Locke (1632-1704).

Locke maintained that mankind is created equal in God’s nature and “being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions.” Limited civil government is established to protect those rights. 1 Peter 2:13-14 outlines the role of government: “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake…as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.” Verse 16 outlines the role of the governed: “[Live] As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.” Herein when the government breaks its God-ordained responsibility to the governed, the solution is as Peter said in Acts 5:29, “We ought to obey God not man.” Today, there is a great North American crackdown on our civil rights. Who do we obey?
