Jesus said in Matthew 10:33, “But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” 1 John 2:22 gives the reminder, “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.” It’s one thing to say that Christ is the Son of God and through Him there is salvation, and yet another to believe it and live it. Over the years, politicians have claimed their faith and belief in Jesus the Messiah, but when it comes down to it, perhaps getting the Christian voting block on election day was more important than any real belief. We can see this play out in how recent presidents proclaimed the resurrection in their “Easter” proclamations.
On March 25, 2016, Barack Obama gave what could be considered one of the shortest Easter messages (65 words) by a president in modern times. He simply said, “Michelle and I join our fellow Christians in observing Good Friday and celebrating Easter this weekend. This is a time to remember the sacrifices made for us and hold all who suffer close to our hearts. Yet it is also a time to rejoice, give thanks for the Resurrection, and unite with Christians around the world in proclaiming, “Christ has risen; He has risen indeed.” We wish all who celebrate a blessed and joyful Easter.” To Obama, the Resurrection was something we all were supposed to “unite” with Christians in proclaiming—almost as if Obama was an observer of a distant religion.
On March 31, 2024, Joe Biden’s 94-word Easter message said, “Jill and I send our warmest wishes to Christians around the world celebrating Easter Sunday. Easter reminds us of the power of hope and the promise of Christ’s Resurrection. As we gather with loved ones, we remember Jesus’ sacrifice. We pray for one another and cherish the blessing of the dawn of new possibilities. And with wars and conflict taking a toll on innocent lives around the world, we renew our commitment to work for peace, security, and dignity for all people. From our family to yours, happy Easter and may God bless you.” Let us compare these statements with the April 13 363-words on “Holy Week” by President Trump. Trump left no doubt about the work of Christ on the cross.
Trump proclaimed, “This Holy Week, Melania and I join in prayer with Christians celebrating the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—the living Son of God who conquered death, freed us from sin, and unlocked the gates of Heaven for all of humanity…Through His suffering, we have redemption. Through His death, we are forgiven of our sins. Through His Resurrection, we have hope of eternal life. On Easter morning, the stone is rolled away, the tomb is empty, and light prevails over darkness—signaling that death does not have the final word.” Some men that claim they are followers of Christ wont even proclaim Him in the most holy of days. It’s not about the number of words they use, it’s about politics over faith and it shows in their deeds. Anything less than true faith is, say it with me, Stupidocrisy.
