The story of the January 6 assault on Capitol Hill is being cemented in history by a partisan news media parroting the narrative of the majority political party, notwithstanding the truth. The sons and daughters of American generations to come will study this event from the jaundiced lens of the left. It will not be the story of a small group of people storming the Capitol in protest certifying electors. It will be the story of how a small group of people, backed by millions of President Trump supporters and urged by the President himself, stormed the Capitol in an attempt to overthrow the government. This is the narrative that the Democratic Party and the mainstream news media are using to write the history books.
Congressman Mike Johnson (R-LA) assessed the issue telling Breitbart News, “They really wanted to use impeachment as a vehicle because they wanted to equate all those tens of millions of Trump’s voters and all of his supporters and everybody who came to the rally, they wanted to equate all of those people with the couple hundred criminals who came in and ransacked the Capitol.” David Schoen, one of the three attorneys representing Trump, spoke to the issue of Democrats weaponizing cancel culture, saying, “In short, this unprecedented effort is not about Democrats opposing political violence. It is about Democrats trying to disqualify their political opposition. It is constitutional cancel culture.”
Indeed, in watching the video presented by the Democrats at the Trump impeachment trial, the narrative reflected Hollywood-style sensationalizing and marketing using words like “never before seen footage of rioters.” But the video looked very similar to the video previously shown by the news media. There were some video frames that showed people wearing QAnon shirts and Guy Fawkes masks, usually associated with violent anarchy. The video reveals rioters calling police “pigs,” and some people dressed in military combat gear with helmets, pointing to something far more organized than traditional Trump rallies. In addition, the Democrats edited out Trump’s words exhorting protesters to “peacefully and patriotically” make their voices heard. If the Democrat case was so compelling, why did they have to edit out the command for peaceful protest?
Trump lawyers countered with video clip after video clip of key Democratic Party leaders advocating violence against Trump supporters and also supporting and encouraging violence. By the time the Supreme Court hears the election integrity cases, the narrative will be set, irrespective of the decisions, which will become footnotes to the Capitol assault. The cancel culture of political intolerance and ideological bigotry is weaponized and aimed at anyone and everyone who disagrees with the left’s agenda. Conservatism and Christianity are in their crosshairs. Point is, to stand and tell the truth—not mean-spiritedly, but matter-of-factly. Christ said that he is the way, the truth and the life. In John 8:32, he said, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Only knowing the truth will make you free, and, quite frankly, keep you free.
