Merry Impeachmas

House Democrats voted to impeach President Trump and then went home. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not, however, sending the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate. She says she wants assurances that the Senate will treat democrats fairly in bringing Trump to trial. WOW! There are at least two possibilities at work here: one is that Pelosi just wants this to play out in the media every day during the holidays and another is that Pelosi is trying to make behind the scenes deals to get votes in the Senate to remove the president. These types of votes are usually bought, bartered or traded based on political favors or funny money in the back rooms of Congress. Either way, America is left to suffer this charade through the holidays.

One reason Pelosi and her Democratic Party colleagues were in a rush to impeach the president was because they believed him to be dangerous to the national security. Now, all of a sudden, national security is not an issue. At issue is whether the Senate will actually remove Trump from office. This is all a big show. Now the big show leaves town and goes home for the holidays. The performers get to sneak into their districts or go on their junkets to warm and wonderful playgrounds around the world, thinking they deserve an Emmy. And they get to keep the negative narrative going every day over the holidays as the news media’s talking heads debate whether Pelosi is any closer to sending the impeachment articles to the Senate.

After the vote on Wednesday night, I said to my wife Chris that I bet those pasty faced, somber news reporters just couldn’t wait to get off the air so they could take a victory lap and celebrate Trump’s imminent downfall. Sure enough, Twitter feeds started popping up like the one from Washington Post reporter Rachael Blade, who posted a photograph on Twitter of her and her colleagues celebrating with beers. Blade tweeted: Merry Impeachmas from the WaPo team! @pkcapitol is buying.” After it became controversial, Blade deleted it, claiming it had been misunderstood. No misunderstanding here. There is more media collusion with the Democratic Party than deep state operatives dreaming up Russian-Trump conspiracy stories—well, maybe.

A great quote from Pelosi about why she is holding up the impeachment articles from the Senate: “So far, we haven’t seen anything that looks fair to us, so hopefully it will be fairer, and when we see what that is, we’ll send our managers.” It’s kind of like her quote a few years ago about socialist healthcare: “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” She is always waiting to see something. Maybe Kim Jong Un could loan her a pair of binoculars. Well, Ms. Pelosi, the American people haven’t seen anything that looks fair to us for a long time coming from your House of Representatives. You are too busy putting on a big show rather than doing the job we entrusted to you. Proverbs 29:2 says, “when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” Merry impeachmas may be great for Pelosi and the coup makers, but not so for America.
