Once again, America wakes up to horrific headlines of bloodshed and violence. The cold-blooded assassination of Democratic Party Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and shooting two others was truly an act of political terrorism. I want to be clear: The Daily Jot unequivocally condemns this violence. This was not civil disobedience. It was murder. It wasn’t political action. It was evil. No matter the shooter’s party registration, grievances, or mental state—this is sin. Violence like this doesn’t solve problems; it is the problem. Yet another disturbing brick in the divisive wall being built by activists and media is the response, the never-ending narrative: Within hours, the blame game began.
Hollywood’s self-appointed conscience, Bradley Whitford, couldn’t resist hopping on X to blame Donald Trump for the killings, calling him a “lawless traitor” who inspired the murders. That’s real de-escalation, right? Not one shred of evidence supports that claim, yet the media ran with it. Meanwhile, the actual suspect—Vance Luther Boelter—appears to be someone of influence in the Minnesota Democratic political machine. He served on two state boards, both appointments handed down by Democrat Governors Mark Dayton and Tim Walz. That’s not a typo. The man now charged with assassinating Democrat lawmakers was appointed by Democrat governors—meaning he had standing in the party, not animosity from the outside.
Here’s what we know: Melissa Hortman had just cast the deciding vote to deny taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants in Minnesota. She was the only Democrat to vote with Republicans—breaking party lines. Her vote swung the tally to 68–65. Days later, she’s murdered in her own home on No Kings Day—a nationwide Democratic Party-led protest against deporting criminal illegal immigrants and supporting Palestinian terrorism. Also found in his car: “No Kings” propaganda, linked to anti-authoritarian anarchist groups, often appearing at leftist demonstrations. To further confuse the political motivation fingerprints, Boelter’s manifesto found In his fake police vehicle listed dozens of pro-abortion Democrats, including well-known figures like Tina Smith and Ilhan Omar. Media says he also home-schooled his children.
This is lining up to be a complex case of political assassination with many possible motives. And the narrative is different depending on the media outlet. Thus the real caution: Don’t let the media frame the picture for you. The facts are still coming in. The political finger-pointing is flying fast and loose. As men and women of God, resist the rush to blame political opponents and instead reflect on the rot that cuts across ideologies. The real issue is the poisoned culture that justifies rage, celebrates revenge, and forgets God’s law. And make no mistake, God has spoken clearly: Exodus 20:13 says, “You shall not murder.” Scriptures says God prefers obedience over sacrifice. Herein, being deceived by vain words, the children of disobedience bring upon them the wrath of God. Obey God not to save a party, but to save our nation’s soul.
