Church responsibility in the DOGE era

The leftist dogma against government accountability has morphed into a plea for compassion on behalf of the innocent who are impacted by the layoffs and spending cuts. This is a symptom of the many decades of government dependency, a result of the government stepping far outside of its Constitutional duties. The Preamble of the Constitution reasons that the government was established to “form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty.” It doesn’t say provide jobs or financial security. The nation experiences shock when this mission drift is corrected. The “Church” has played a role in this problem.

The government is the number one employer and the number one provider of social services to what has become a dependent nation. It started in the 1930’s under Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal. For example, when federal Aid to Families with Dependent Children began in 1936 there were about 500,000 children and parents in the program. By 1969, it had grown to 7 million. The 1960’s Great Society programs of Lyndon Johnson expanded government dependency through Medicaid, Supplemental Social Security Income, welfare and more. The mainline churches supported and lobbied for all this. Today, government money goes to sex changes, birth control and “reproductive services” (translated abortion), psychological evaluation—you name it and the government has a program for it.

The government, according to the Constitution, should not be involved in the “compassion” business. That’s where the “Church” should be. Unfortunately, the church was all too happy to abdicate its role in the care and nurturing of society. Offloading the “burden” to the government afforded the church the opportunity to expand into emotional, extra-biblical and self-indulgent areas. Where the church efficiently and with great blessing once met the needs of the less fortunate, unemployed, needy, now the government levies a heavy burden of taxes. With a great and expensive bureaucracy, the government plays God by doling out a little for every self-interest group and exercises great control through dependency. And, as we are seeing daily, money, resources and people are applied to advance political agendas, graft and corruption.

Yes, there will be good people losing their government jobs. But if they are qualified, they will find jobs in the private sector. Your church should identify them and step up. But those people being fired who were on the government dole to advance the Marxist Democratic Party agenda, which is antithetical to America and God, they get what they get. It never should have been a government so big and so dedicated to special interest groups, that our rights as individuals, including fiduciary accountability, are intentionally violated every day. 1 John 3:17 says, “If anyone with earthly possessions sees his brother in need, but withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God abide in him?” It’s not government’s responsibility. It is ours as the Church and followers of Christ. Don’t fall into the Marxist trap of compassion, but exercise it in your action.
