Revelation 3:20 says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” The practical manifestation of this scripture takes place in our Ministry every week in the lives of hundreds of hungry beneficiaries of our free meals program. Our colorful bags of foodstuffs have been a lifeline for those in the most underserved and economically challenged rural areas of Ghana, and they bring joy to those in need. It brings alive the conversation Peter had with Jesus when He asked “do you love me” and He repeated three times to “feed my sheep.”
This is how it unfolds: A poor and hungry family might just have woken from (or are preparing to go to) bed without a meal. They hear a knock on the door (or the voice of a stranger asking at the entrance of their compound house): “Is anybody home?” With uncertainty, a family member asks: “Please who is it?” A volunteer responds: “We are volunteers from a local Ministry with some gifts for you.”
In total disbelief and a mighty rush of adrenaline, an elderly member of the family shows up to see our volunteers with large packages of raw food or hot meals. Unbelievable. They quickly beckon the volunteers in! Such is the story that characterizes our unannounced donations. So far, just in the first eight months of this year, we’ve served 80,737 meals to needy families, vulnerable children, widows, orphans, persons living with disabilities, ex-prisoners, the sick in hospitals, elderly grandparents, etc. Any volunteer of ours who walks into the home of the poor with food aid is an ambassador of Christ who has come to dine with them and them with Him because they receive both physical and spiritual food.
Everyone becomes joyful. Hearts are filled with gratitude. Faces beam with smiles. Laughter fills the air. Children jump about in ecstasy. Parents hug each other and some shed tears. Deep down every heart is now an unshakable belief: God exists! Hallelujah! As a result, many beneficiaries have accepted Christ and are attending local churches. Mission accomplished – we have delivered two essentials in the lives of the poor: practical and spiritual food! Thousands are now aware and do believe we serve a living God, a marvelous King and a powerful Comforter, even the Holy Spirit of God.
Bill’s Note: We are a small ministry. No salaries. All volunteers. We go where the large churches don’t go—the very rural areas where the impact of Islamic aggression and poverty combine to starve the needy of both physical and spiritual food. We face danger and hardship. We do our part. And it is only made possible by your heartfelt gifts that fuel the engine of this ministry. We thank you and ask the Lord’s blessing upon you for blessing so many.
